"Lens & Life: A Photo Documentary Workshop Exploration"

A photo documentary workshop is a structured program or event where participants can learn and enhance their skills in creating documentary-style photographs. These workshops are designed to help participants develop the skills and knowledge necessary to tell compelling stories through images.

 

Key components and topics that will be cover in a photo documentary workshop:

Storytelling and Conceptualization:

  • Identifying and developing compelling photo documentary ideas.

  • Crafting a narrative and defining the story you want to tell through your images.

Photographic Techniques:

  • Camera basics and advanced settings.

  • Composition and framing for storytelling.

  • Capturing moments and creating compelling portraits.

Fieldwork and Shooting:

  • Practical shooting exercises and assignments.

  • Techniques for approaching and interacting with subjects.

  • Understanding and working with light.

Editing:

  • Selection and curation of images.

  • Developing a visual style for your documentary.

Ethics and Responsibility:

  • Discussing the ethical considerations of documentary photography.

  • Respecting the subjects and communities being documented.

Feedback and Critique:

  • Regular review sessions for participants work.

  • Constructive feedback from instructor and peers.

 

Attending a photo documentary workshop, participants will gain valuable hands-on experience,  develop a deeper understanding of the art and practice of documentary photography. It's also an excellent opportunity for networking and building a supportive community of fellow photographers.
